Library resolutions to make (and keep) in 2023

This year make a resolution that’s easy to keep — making the most of your library card at Newtown Public Library! Whether you’re already a power user or it has been a while since you checked out a book, we hope you make 2023 the year to maximize your library experience. So get your library card at the ready and discover all of the things you can do with it.

Here are some ideas for library resolutions to make in 2023:

Get a Library Card

Are you new to Newtown and haven’t checked out the library yet? Or did your library card expire during the pandemic? Maybe you haven’t had a library card since you were a kid? It’s time to get the library card back in service!

Anyone living, working or attending school in Delaware County is eligible for a Delaware County Libraries library card. You can get one at your nearest DCL location or apply online for a card.

Use Your Library Card

So, you HAVE your library card, but are you USING it? You card is the key to unlocking so many things at the Library. Here are just a few:

Check out books: You have access to items from all 26 Delaware County Libraries with your card. Stop in to Newtown Public library to browse or use our catalog to reserve materials to pick up from other libraries in the county.

Read eBooks and eMagazines and listen to audiobooks: Using Libby, a free app from OverDrive, available for Apple, Android, and Windows devices, you can borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines (like The New Yorker, Bon Appétit, and Vanity Fair) online via Libby from your phone, tablet or computer.

Read digital newspapers from home: You have access to newspapers (like The New York Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer) online by visiting the Delaware County Libraries website.

Instantly stream and download eBooks, audiobooks, comics, music, movies, and TV: Newtown Public Library is one of a few Delaware County Libraries that offers hoopla, which with a valid library card, allows you to borrow, instantly stream, and download dynamic content via the hoopla app or on the hoopla website.

Enjoy free visits to cultural institutions: Delaware County Libraries cardholders can borrow passes to museums (such as the Museum of the American Revolution), zoos (such as the Elmwood Park Zoo) and outside venues (like Tyler Arboretum). Give us a call to put a two-hour hold on any passes we have available.
